In May of 2011, the U-M Symphony Band of the School of Music, Theatre & Dance toured throughout China for three weeks. Their grand finale was at the beautiful Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles on their return home.
Traveling with them were students from the Screen Arts and Cultures Program. They came back to Ann Arbor with miles of raw footage, which they will distill and edit into a finished documentary that should be available for preview by the end of 2011. "This project means a great deal to all of us," says faculty advisor Chris McNamara, SAC senior lecturer and film and video artist. "For the students, it represents the first opportunity to work on such a large-scale documentary project. It's an immense undertaking to create what we envision as a lasting document of the tour. We want this video to serve as a historical memento for all involved, but we also want it to tell the story about this symphony band at this particular moment in time."
