Pierpont Commons - Your Student Union on North!

Pierpont serves as the main resource center for North Campus featuring a variety of eateries, retail services, meeting and gathering spaces, study areas as well as events and activities from University Unions Arts and Programs. It’s a dynamic place, always adjusting to best serve the needs of the ever growing North Campus community.  Pierpont is home to various vendors and retail operations including a UM Credit Union, ATMs, a bookstore, a convenience store and a variety of food choices. To fuel students as they study, some of the eateries at Pierpont are now open later.

Winter Blast at Last!

Join us on Feb. 17-18 for Winter Blast on the North Campus Diag! The Center for Campus Involvement along with the Go North Initiative is hosting an ice rink - yes, really - and free skate rental from noon to 10pm Friday and Saturday. Also, the Michigan Ice Carving team competes against other area colleges in creating ice sculptures on Saturday, 11am-3pm. Come cheer on the Wolverines in this unique competition! A special UMix takes place on the 17th which will involve ice skating, as well!

Get Active - Go to the NCRB

The North Campus Recreation Building (NCRB) has some new upgrades that they are excited to share with you this upcoming fall semester.  Just under two years ago, the Department of Recreational Sports, Home of the NCRB was given a onetime allotment of money to specifically devote to new equipment, facility renovations and upgrades.  This fall the NCRB will be home to two new flat screens TV’s that will be connected to the University’s cable channels will be installed and displayed in the lobby area.  Furniture to accompany the lobby area has already been purchased and is craving for student

North Campus Transportation

Getting to and from North Campus is easy! University buses run between all four campuses every ten to fifteen minutes. They can only stop at designated bus stops, so look for a blue sign with a yellow bus icon to find a stop.  To find out when the next U-M bus will arrive at your stop, visit  the Magic Bus website or m.mbusreloaded.com from your mobile device to see when the next bus will be arriving at your stop.

How do I get to Pierpont Commons from North Campus housing?

  • Best option from 7:30 a.m.-10:55 a.m.: Take the Northwood Express from your residence to Pierpont. Stops are on Murfin north of Hubbard, at the Fire Station, on Bishop St, on Cram Circle, on Hubbard near Cram Circle and on Hubbard near Murfin.
  • Other times: Take the Northwood or Bursley-Baits buses from your residence or Bursley to Pierpont.

How do I get to the Michigan Union on Central Campus from North Campus?

Fountains on North Campus

North Campus is rich in beautiful woodsy settings replete with flower gardens, ponds, fountains and outdoor sculptures. It is a restful place to spend the day walking, viewing sculptures, visiting art galleries, picnicking and if you plan ahead-- enjoying a recital or dance performance.

Using Brain Waves to Control Content

Ever want to control something with your mind? Rearrange your bedroom by only thinking about it?  The University of Michigan 3D Lab is using EEG technology combined with full body gestures to bring a new level of immersion to interactive applications. Using the EPOC Emotiv headset one can read instant EEG patterns from 14 areas of the brain. This information can be used to tell special software whether you are smiling, stressed out, or thinking about grapes.

Family Night on November 16th!

The Center for Campus Involvement, in partnership with Northwood Community Apartments, Rackham Graduate School, and the Work Life Resource Center,  is proud to present Family Night—an awesome FREE event with plenty of snacks, crafts, story time, dress up, photos, games, and more -- an evening of wholesome fun that the entire family can enjoy together! Go North to Commons Café at Pierpont Commons from 5:30 to 7:30 pm on Wednesday, November 16th to experience the fun and bring out the inner child in you!

All About University Unions

University Unions is an organization within the Division of Student Affairs offering a variety of services, programs and opportunities for student involvement in The Michigan Union and The Michigan League on Central Campus, and The Pierpont Commons on North Campus. The Unions help connect students, staff, faculty and guests to places where you can meet friends, attend events, grab food, get computer time, study and more. Many student organizations operate out of the Unions - making them a constant hub of activity!

Which Fork Do I Use?

Are you confused over which fork to use when? Do you  want to impress a potential employer? Come to the Business Etiquette Dinner!

The popular Business Etiquette Dinner will be taking place on October 27, 2011, from 5pm to 7pm at Commons Cafe, Pierpont Commons. Be sure to sign up quickly because space is running out!

Living Arts Photo Competition

The Living Arts Program Board, led by Jill Bender and Ed Utter, organized a photo competition to celebrate North Campus.  Three outside judges evaluated 125 photographs on the basis of aesthetics and how they represented North Campus.   First prize went to Peter Shin; second prize to Daniel Chern, and third prize to Jerald Shi. Congratulations to the winners and to the Living Arts Program Board!  The photographs will be on display at the Duderstadt Connector Hallway through March 16.

College of Engineering

The University of Michigan began educating engineers in 1854 and was the first public university to award degrees in engineering. Michigan Engineering is the home of top scholars, making a difference in society, across a wide range of disciplines. With 12 academic departments, students can also pursue the International Minor, Multidisciplinary Design Minor, or the Certificate in Entrepreneurship. Michigan Engineers use their technical knowledge and project design skills to make an impact in the world.
